When the World Begins to Mirror Childhood Trauma: Navigating a Dystopian Reality
Over the past decade, I have felt as if I am reliving a familiar horror story, triggered by willful ignorance, denial, heartlessness, and narcissism. I wonder at what kind of Universe would make me endure this kind of world again, with similar actors playing out abusive, small-minded, self-serving, sexist, and exploitative tendencies. My naive belief that healing from complex trauma would get easier as I got older is continually upended. Despite being wiser, more aware, and better equipped with healing tools - the flashbacks, pain, retraumatization, and dissociating triggers that come with CPTSD remain.
Energetically, we know that our thoughts and beliefs create patterns and cycles that recur throughout our lives. As we work to heal, the hope is that any negative repeating tendencies lessen or are transmuted altogether. But, in the triggered throes of a flashback or dissociative event, those concepts offer little comfort.
