The Double Burden: Healing from CPTSD While NavigatingUnsupportive Relationships

Healing from Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) is an incredibly challenging journey, and it can feel even more daunting when complicated by the delicate dynamics with family and friends. When those closest to us do not know how to help, are not interested in helping, or are part of our initial, and sometimes ongoing trauma, the process becomes even more daunting. Healing on our own is already a huge undertaking, but wading through the dark waters of life with others can be retraumatizing, and exacerbate underlying pain, such as toxic shame and feelings of betrayal.

Some of the most poisonous people come disguised as friends and family.
