No Talent for Certainty: Finding Beauty in Doubt & Contrast
I often find myself dwelling on contrast. I have learned over the years that my favorite photographs are those filled with visual disparity: shadow and light, beautiful and ugly, smooth and rough textures, or natural elements alongside the manmade. These create a richness that draws me in.
I find this in life as well. Trauma and pain can bring about these shifts from the depths of despair to finding mercy in the heights of a grace-filled moment. Or, when kind words from another open and expand my heart so unexpectedly after feeling the threats of old wounds pulling me back into small dark places. It is in these contrasting experiences – peace and disharmony, pain and relief, life and death – that life teaches us its meaning.
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain.
