Becoming a Love Rebel with a Cause

Join me. This is your invitation to become a Love Rebel and join the Love Revolution. To open your heart to this moment, and to everyone that you know, love, like, and to all those you don’t. Join a growing movement here at HeartBalm to bring your Love to all beings, to every community, country, world, and to the entire universe. Become a rebel to the idea that love is conditional, limited, exclusive, or binary. Choose to love what is even if you don’t like it. Rebel against the idea that if you don’t like another that you can’t love them, and instead choose to love everyone even in the face of inner resistance. Rupert Spira, writer and nondual teacher says:

You don’t have to like everyone but you do have to love them.

_Rupert Spira, “The Art of Peace & Happiness”

It is easy to love those that we like, appreciate, deem worthy, and feel kindness towards. Easy to love the experiences, moments, and things that bring us joy, and laughter, make our life easier, and open our heart. What is harder is loving what is even if we do not like it, or loving those that we dislike, do not understand, those who act selfishly or hurt others, react, or interact differently to us, or to those that we feel do not deserve our love.

We talk about love in so many ways – and see it having degrees of intensity, and levels of lack or abundance. We bestow our love on another or on our children, pets, a favorite song, movie, or possession. We say we love you till death us do part but years later decide that love has faded and now there is nothing left to do but part. Where did the love go? Is our love less for one thing than another, for one human over another, or as K.D. Lang asks:

We all love animals. Why do we call some pets and others dinner?

Love is not a finite resource doled out carefully in teaspoonfuls so as not to run out, yet love from an egoic and human, limited expression is often fickle, seems to fade or vanish over time, feels limited, and we fear losing it, wasting it, or hoard it like a precious resource. Yet the Love that transcends space and time – the Love of Source as Love itself is inexhaustible, unconditional, never fades, and is never diminished no matter how much time passes, or how much drama, life challenges, or negative experiences transpire. We love ideas and people that are not in our present experience – those who have died or those ready to be born into our lives, or dreams of a future job, home, place to visit, new car, or possession that is soon to come. Ram Dass affirms that…

Unconditional love exists in each of us. It is not so much a chosen or active emotion as a state of being – [a state of knowing our true essence as Love itself.] It is not ‘I love you for this or that reason,’ not ‘I love you if you love me.’ It is love for no reason, love without an objective, [story, or qualifier.]

_Ram Dass, “Be Love Now: The Path of the Heart”

Source Love has no beginning or end. Can the eyes of Love see difference? See worthiness or deserving. Judge who is wrong and who is right. See itself as a resource to be withheld, controlled, squandered, and made into a transaction. Love is blind they say. Love flies beyond all limits of the human concept of matter, duality, and formed experience. The Love Rebel can see past their own limitations of ego and personality – love that picks and chooses who it honors and bestows, or how it limits and retracts, and rebels to go beyond to the broader, infinite source of whole Love – of Source Love – to hold the space, and see Love as already given no matter what. Being a Love Rebel is extending this knowing, this living prayer, this courageous act of transcendent open-heartedness to anyone at any time. Without words. Without fanfare or the need to announce its deserving or its coming. Love given automatically without stories, judgment, limitation, or negotiation is the purest form of life. It is the raw nature of the soul – the higher self walking with you and in you as authentic Love.

Love is like a tree: it grows by itself, roots itself deeply in our being and continues to flourish over a heart in ruin. The inexplicable fact is that the blinder it is, the more tenacious it is. It is never stronger than when it is completely unreasonable.

_Victor Hugo, “Selected Poems of Victor Hugo”

The rebel is the one that resists rules or norms of authority, control, or tradition – societal or our own. When we hear the inner rebel yell - there is a defiance and an empowered call within us to go beyond our normal ways of being. A push that tells us we must do more, change how we have handled something in the past to meet a more extreme present condition, speak out, inform others, or find another way that may be well outside our comfort zone or how we have responded to life before.

If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.

_Katharine Hepburn, “Me: Stories of My Life”
