Not a single, isolated event. Not a freak accident of fate. But a long, slow system of destruction. A poisoned well passed down from generation to generation, wrapped in silence, shame, and an expectation to stay loyal to pain.
Most adults who encouraged you to keep “family issues private” were either perpetuating abuse or enabling it.
For those of us with CPTSD, especially those born into generational trauma, this is the truth that no one wants to say out loud: sometimes family is the danger. The breeding ground. The root. And that sometimes, the people who say “family is everything,” and “blood is thicker than water,” are the very ones who taught us to stay silent and abandon ourselves.
